DO YOUR PART, RECYCLE

It's no secret, we are in the "Going Green" period where people are becoming more and more aware of just how important it is to conserve our energy, use our utilities & resources wisely and recycle our waste to help save our planet. Global warming is also a topic that is frequently discussed among people all over the world and could have a devistating effect on our society and societies all over the world and it's up to each one of us to do our part in helping reduce the troubling effects we are all ready seeing as a result of our carelessness. Howard County has addressed this issue by offering and providing its residents blue recycle bins that can be used to recycle plastic, paper and other recycable items we once just threw away in the garbage. If you haven't all ready, get your recycle bin by contacting  Howard County Bureau of Environmental Services (Recycle Division) at (410) 313-6444

They have different size bins you can request to replace the one you get, that will accomodate the amount of recyclables you have. Someone will simply come out and make a swap, just by calling the number listed above and requesting an exchange.

Recyclables are picked up every Wednesday morning and should be placed out by a curb in a common area by 6:00 a.m. or the night before. Make sure your recyclables are secure so that the wind doesn't blow them all over the neighborhood. Do your part and help keep our community and our planet clean.

 Garbage & Trash Disposal

Garbage and trash disposal is a routine task for everyone in our community and for those who don't know, trash is picked up every Friday morning usually between the hours of 7 - 9 am. Your tax dollars pay for this service, however, if your trash or garbage blows out into the neighborhood, there are no provisions for it to be cleaned up. It is your responsibility as a Riderwood resident to make sure when setting out your trash, that it is securly bundled and won't be blown away by the wind. Unfortunately, the wooded preservation area along Morning Walk and Solar Walk takes the burden of catching the blown trash into the bushes and trees and this ruins the orderly appearance of our neighborhood. That said, the Riderwood Board will be taking a closer look at this problem and determine how to address it properly. What you can do to help address this problem as a Riderwood resident is follow these simple guidelines;

1.) When setting out your trash for pickup, it should not be set out no sooner than the day before the normal trash pick up day which is Thursday nights.

2.) Bundle your trash well enough so that it won't be blown all over the neighborhood on windy days and nights and make sure it is bundled so that animals can't get into it. If trash bags won't facilitate the amont of trash you have, use a container to set it out in.

3.) If your trash does happen to blow out into the common areas or into the street, be curtious and pick it up.

4.) After the trash has been picked up, remove your trash bins and containers from the common areas as soon as possible so that they aren't blown on to other neighbors property or into the street which is a hazard. Residents will be cited if their garbage containers are left in the common areas more than 2 days after the garbage has been collected.

5.) No dumping of any type of discarded waste is permitted in the wooded preservation area adjacent to Solar Walk and Morning walk or any of the other wooded areas around the Riderwood community.

6.) Only certain items can be included in your  trash for weekly pick up and those items excluded from the weekly trash pickup, must be disposed of at the land fill. Check the links below for details;
